What Causes Sweaty Hands and Palmar Hyperhidrosis?

Sweaty hands are predominantly caused by the activation of eccrine sweat glands, which are highly concentrated in our palms, forehead, and feet. These glands are directly connected to the sympathetic nervous system, which initiates sweating in response to stress, nervousness, or excitement. In some cases, persistent excessive hand sweating, medically termed palmar hyperhidrosis, can also indicate underlying health issues such as diabetes, low blood sugar, or an overactive thyroid. This condition often emerges during adolescence and can continue throughout an individual's life.
